Abyssinia Bank S.C, a leading financial institution in Ethiopia, is pleased to announce the following job vacancies for July 2023.

Position 1: Foreclosure Officer

Education: LLM/LLB Degree in Law.

Experience: Minimum of 4/6 years of banking experience, with at least 3 years in the area of Law.

Job Objective:
The Foreclosure Officer will be responsible for handling legal matters and court proceedings related to debt. This includes managing loan litigation cases, representing the bank in courts and tribunals, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. The officer will also participate in research and report preparation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare legal documents such as statements of claim, defense, pleadings, and appeals for loan recovery cases.
  • Represent the bank in courts and tribunals for issues related to loan litigations.
  • Review court judgments and tribunal orders, advising branches and concerned departments accordingly.
  • Follow up on the implementation of court orders and advise on defaulting loans and collateral termination.
  • Prepare letters, notices, and legal instruments for foreclosure activities and settlement of arrears.
  • Advise and follow up on criminal cases related to loan issues.
  • Conduct research to improve loan recovery systems and mechanisms.
  • Maintain records of court adjournments and necessary legal documents systematically.
  • Communicate court decisions to respective bank branches.
  • Interpret and prepare circulars and memos on legal issues affecting the department’s activities.
  • Analyze potential case outcomes based on legal precedents and determine best course of action.
  • Attend court cases, conduct litigation, and report progress on each adjournment.
  • Participate in meetings and negotiations called by the bank or external organizations.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in legislation and maintain good working relations with customers.

Place of Work: Head Office, Ethiopia

Position 2: Grade I Branch Manager

Education: MA/BA Degree in Accounting, Management, Marketing, Banking and Finance, Economics, or other business-related fields.

Work Experience: Minimum of 6/8 years of banking experience, with experience in a supervisory role being advantageous.

Job Objective:
The Grade I Branch Manager will be responsible for overseeing the overall banking operations of the branch. This includes developing and implementing branch plans, managing staff, ensuring customer satisfaction, promoting bank products, and maintaining compliance with regulations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement branch plans, objectives, and budgets.
  • Coordinate and manage overall banking operations at the branch.
  • Ensure effective utilization of resources and proper utilization of customer queries and complaints.
  • Promote new and existing bank products and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, bank policies, and procedures.
  • Plan, coach, manage, and coordinate branch management activities.
  • Support branch staff in developing and managing customer relationships.
  • Set team objectives, goals, and performance standards.
  • Conduct regular assessments of branch-related work practices.
  • Evaluate annual plans such as operational, marketing, and sales plans.
  • Enhance the branch’s competitive position and monitor compliance and monitoring.
  • Create a conducive work environment for customers and staff.
  • Coordinate marketing efforts and represent the branch in social and official affairs.
  • Ensure proper documentation related to credit and international banking.
  • Coordinate with respective departments and handle correspondences.
  • Implement strategies for business growth, operational excellence, and digitalization.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisory management.
